If you’re on the lookout for some much needed motivation to get moving (*raises both hands*), maybe the prospect of making some money will be the force you need to get to the gym or hit the running trail.
At least that’s the premise behind one of the most popular workout apps, Sweatcoin.
The app, which is available on Android and iOS, will literally pay you to get fit. Alright, we’ll admit, it has our attention now. Who’s ready to make some moolah?
Every time you get steps in and work out, the app will pay you in a digital currency known as “sweat coins,” which you can then use to buy workout gear, training kits, gadgets, and even fitness trackers or watches — for reference, at an average of 10,000 steps per day, you’ll be able to snag a Fitbit Flex in roughly two months.
“[You can buy] goods, services, and experiences ranging from anti-gravity yoga classes to high-tech shoes, to iPhones and Apple Watches,” the company says. “You can also donate your Sweatcoins to some of our amazing partnering charities, making for an easy way to help others around the world.”
With the recent rise in cryptocurrency — Bitcoin, of course, is the most popular — you can also mine for sweat coin. And by “mine,” we mean sweat.
The free app is available on the two biggest platforms and needs to run in the background as you work out or walk, so it can access the steps you’re taking and convert them to coins.
Much like other fitness apps, Sweatcoin also lets you compete with your friends, setting up leader boards to see who is getting the most steps — and therefore the most cash — on a daily basis. Get ready for the competition, and motivation, to begin.
