Here's What To Watch (And Eat) For Your Ultimate Healthy Night In

We've rounded up the best new TV series airing on Netflix, Stan and Foxtel.

There are loads of wonderful things about summer. Balmy nights, daylight savings, being able to wear dresses without tights… just to name a few. But if you ask me, the colder months have their merits, too. There’s something rather nice about not feeling like you have to venture out every weekend, so as to not miss a beautiful, sunny day. Of course, you don’t want to become a full-time antisocial hermit. But whether it’s with your partner, girlfriends or solo, a cosy night in doesn’t go astray every now and again. So, in case you’ve already made your way through the entire Netflix catalogue or are just in need of some inspiration as the weather gets colder, we’ve rounded up the best new TV series to hit streaming services and Foxtel. And because no night in is complete without delicious food, we’ve also suggested some yummy, healthy snacks to eat alongside them. Happy watching!

Imposters

If you can’t go past a good dark comedy, you’ll love Imposters. It’s about a seductive con artist, Maddie (Inbar Lavi) who tricks men into falling in love with her — before taking them for all they’re worth! Yep, as we said, it’s dark (but oh so entertaining)!
Where to watch it: Season one is now streaming on Stan.
What to eat: You won’t be able to look away from the TV, so best to go for something easy to eat yet healthy, like these salt and vinegar zucchini chips!

Designated Survivor

As someone who tends to find political dramas to be a bit of a snoozefest (sorry, House of Cards) I really didn’t expect to like this. But it’s just so dang intriguing watching regular dude Tom (Kiefer Sutherland) adapt when unusual circumstances lead to him becoming President of the United States. It’s a good one to watch with your boyfriend.
Where to watch it: Season one is now streaming on Netflix.
What to eat: You’re going to need some serious sustenance to get through all 11 episodes of the series, so why not snack on these high protein crispy parmesan garlic edamame beans?

Chewing Gum

I’m a bit of a comedy nerd so this is a big call — but Chewing Gum may be of the most funniest shows I’ve ever watched. It follows the misadventures of Tracey (Michaela Coel), a 24-year-old virgin growing up in a religious household in a housing commission in England. She’s just the right amount of cray cray, which makes for some hilarious viewing.
Where to watch it: Season one is now streaming on Netflix
What to eat: I mean, you could go really literal and just chew on gum while you binge-watch this series, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we say pay tribute to show’s English roots with these bubble and squeak jacket potatoes.

Big Little Lies

This comedy-drama miniseries has been getting some serious hype — and with a cast including Nicole Kidman, Reece Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Alexander Skarsgard, it’s not hard to see why. Based on a book by Australian author Liane Moriarty, it tells the tale of three suburban mums whose lives become entangled in a murder.
Where to watch it: Season one is now airing on Encore on Foxtel, at 1 pm and 8:30 pm EDT Mondays.
What to eat: You’ll have to wait to a week for each new episode of this compelling series — so instead of snacking, why not accompany it with a substantial dinner like Jessica Sepel’s yummy alfredo pasta.

You Me Her

Question: What happens when a suburban middle-aged, married couple start a relationship with a 20-something escort (yes, both of them)? Answer: A whole lotta binge-worthy drama! Oh, and it happens to be pretty damn funny, too.
Where to watch it: Season one is now airing on Netflix.
What to eat: Pizza makes a few appearances during this series. So, why not quell your cravings by sitting down with these mini cauliflower crust pizzas?

Younger

The entire Amodrn office is obsessed with this comedy-drama series. It centres around Liza (Sutton Foster), a 40-year-old single mum who poses as a 26-year-old in order to break back into the publishing industry. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but it’s seriously addictive! It’s a great one to tune in to when you’ve got the girls over.
Where to watch it: Seasons 1 to 3 are now streaming on Stan.
What to eat: Younger takes place in NYC, so what better to pair it with than these Reuben tortilla pinwheels? The recipe even includes sauerkraut, so you can nourish your gut while you binge-watch!

Santa Clarita Diet

Zombie comedies are most definitely not my cup of tea, but something told me to give this series a go. I was glad I did, as the Netflix original series is not only funny, but unexpectedly sweet, too. It’s about a married couple who’s lives drastically changed when Sheila (Drew Barrymore) suddenly dies and becomes, you guessed it, a zombie!
Where to watch it: Season one is now airing on Netflix.
What to eat: Watching Sheila tuck in to human bodies might put you off meat a little, so why not try these healthy vegetarian nachos?
