Sometimes the distance between your house and the gym is enough to deter you. Whether you’re tucked up in bed, or at the end of a long day, passing up the cosy confines of your home for a heart-pumping workout can be easier said than done.
But we all know you don’t need to hit the gym to fit in a good workout. In fact, you don’t even need to go outside. As long as you have a WiFi connection and a yoga mat, there’s nothing to stop you lunge jumping in your living room. YouTube is a gold mine of seriously effective workouts that require no equipment – and no fee! – and are perfect for raising your heart-rate at home. Ahead, we shortlist our favorite eight channels to fuel your next apartment-friendly workout.
More than two million people subscribe to watch Pilates star Cassey Ho‘s YouTube workouts. Professionally produced, short, snappy, and easy to follow, most of the sequences don’t require any equipment, although a mat and stretch bands would be useful if you want to try out some of the more intense workouts.
Next time you’re feeling guilty about binge-watching Netflix, take a break from House of Cards and try one of Fitness Blender’s workouts. A little longer than a lot of the clips you will find online, each video’s actually a pretty good substitute to hitting the gym. On their channel you will find fat-torching moves for the rest of your body, but we’re particularly into this waist-defining ab workout.
Sometimes it’s hard to get your heart-rate raised with some of the more gentle yoga sequences, but Interval Yoga will get you sweating.
You will need a jump rope, mat, and dumbbells for a lot of these workouts, but if you’re looking for something a little more intense, BodyRock‘s a great online destination. Sift through the list of videos for some bodyweight workouts if you don’t have any equipment at home. Looking for a place to start? This back workout is everything.
Tone It Up
The Tone It Up team love to raise your heart rate, making this one of our favorite channels for calorie-burning exercise ideas. Just try not to get too jealous of the sandy backdrop while you’re sweating in your studio apartment.
When you’re in the mood for something gentler, click over to Bex Life. The channel’s filled with brilliant yoga classes, guided meditation, and stretches for when you’re feeling a little more yin than yang. The quality of filming isn’t great, but the sequences are.
