Popular Renovation Trends to Look Out For in 2021

Start budgeting for your work-from-home upgrades and backyard escapes!

The best thing I’ve heard all year was from my podiatrist, who told me that she was unable to buy a jacuzzi because they were sold out online until the following year. I asked her why, and she told me it was because of the pandemic. That people were buying them up, renovating their homes, and making sure they could use their spaces for pretty much anything. She was absolutely right. Home renovation during the pandemic seems to be super hot right now. Let’s be honest, what else is there to do? We did some research and figured out what the most popular renovation trends were in 2021. Start budgeting for your work-from-home upgrades and backyard escapes! Keep reading for more.

Most Popular Renovation Trends for 2021

1) Work from Home Will Be the Main Focus of Design

Regardless of whether or not this pandemic ends tomorrow, this year, or in a decade, WFH is here to stay indefinitely. Across the board, working from home (for those of us that can) adds so much to people’s lives. You save tons of money and time from traveling back and forth to the office. Pollution is decreased exponentially. People’s livelihoods increase because they can plug in anywhere, at any time. And even if you do end up going back to the office, it might only be in a part-time capacity. Having an office space in your home can make you more productive, interested in work, and give you more of an ability to focus.

2) Expect a Rise in Green Solutions

According to Architectural Digest, “we will see a return to green initiatives that were sorely lacking under the previous government. Whether it’s the addition of larger systems like solar power or rainwater harvesting to existing homes or simpler incentives for property owners to undertake insulation and HVAC upgrades, this new initiative will bring a boon of work for both the commercial and residential renovation industries”.

If you are able to renovate your home in a greener way, there are also some tax benefits that come along with it. Just like having a green vehicle, in some states, you get increased tax reduction for installing solar panels on your roof.

3) Even After the Pandemic, We’ll Want to Remain Outside

Because of the pandemic bringing awareness to the dangers of being indoors. It even brought to light how relevant this is with the cold and flu season. Post-pandemic, we’ll want to be outside as much as we can. This year, the U.S. saw 100 times less flu than the year before. How is that even possible? Well, masking and social distancing, along with the flu being much less transmissible than COVID helped a lot. Because we know COVID is super transmissible, we’ll opt for outdoor seating, comfy heat lamps, and an amazing outdoor space to help us feel better about hanging out. Many experts say that being outside and masking are here to say, regardless of the pandemic or not.
