While most food trends come and go (we’re looking at you, succulent cakes!), there’s one that has managed to stand the test of time — poke! The Japanese Hawaiian fusion dish first hit the mainstream in 2016 and has only become more and more popular since. It’s not hard to see why, really — it’s fresh, it’s healthy and it literally tastes like summer. It’s also a great work lunch option, as it’s packed with nutrients but is a lot more interesting than a plain ol’ salad.
The good news is, you don’t have to blow your entire food budget buying your bowl from the exxy poke place in the food court. They’re super easy to recreate at home and if you manage to nab a good bargain on sushi-grade fish at your local fish market or Japanese supermarket, can also be pretty affordable! (Note: even if you can’t, we’ve included a few super cheap alternatives in this list).
