Even if you’re not big on New Year’s resolutions, the start of a fresh calendar year does have some sort of magic to it. It makes us want to start new projects, craft new visions for the future, and maybe even start eating healthier (maybe not, the jury’s still out on that one.)
We’re big on goal-setting year-round, but especially around the beginning of January. Setting actionable goals, instead of pie-in-the-sky resolutions that are tough to stick to, sets you up for serious success. We pulled some of our favourite quotes from our go-to goal-setting gurus to give you a little inspiration and focus for your 2017 goals.

“Write down all the things that you want to accomplish, that you want to achieve, or the things that you want to experience over the next 12 months. […] One thing that’s important: Don’t edit yourself or censor yourself. Don’t stop and think, “I don’t know how I’m going to get this one done.” I do this exercise often and I have to tell you, it feels so good! You’re going to get a massive surge in energy once you do this and then you’re going to be ready for step number two.
Step number two is the prune… Most ambitious, driven people take on way too much, and I bet you do this all the time. You might have your focus scattered, you’re going to dilute your energy, and then you’re gonna wind up feeling overwhelmed and either quit, or [end up] just spinning your wheels around and around and never making any meaningful progress. I want you to focus on the critical few things rather than the trivial many.”

“Create a vision and never let the environment, other people’s beliefs, or the limits of what has been done in the past shape your decisions.”

“The first step in doing what you’re dreaming of is to claim it! Claim it right now: “I am ready to live a life of purpose and fulfilment.” That commitment is what sets everything else in motion. […] I’m an action taker, and I think a lot of folks that struggle with not actually doing what they’ve been dreaming of are folks who are maybe potentially paralysed and so fearful of actually taking action. […]
I’m not saying go start that business tomorrow, or go leave your job and change everything. What I’m saying is start with one small, right action every day. Take one small right action daily towards your dream—towards your goal, towards your vision. […] As you add up those small right actions, eventually those dreams become your reality.”
We picked Gabby’s book, The Universe Has Your Back, as one of our favourite life-changing reads we picked up this year. Get more from the new-age guru on her site.

“Instead of a new exercise regimen or a plan to have this year be the best year of your best body or your best life, let’s talk about being imperfect and holding that with the space of grace—holding your imperfections with a mid of acceptance. Because I think that’s the primary foundation on which you can build a life that makes you happy.
We have this drive every year […] that we want to be better, and I think that’s a natural drive within us. The fact is, A Course In Miracles says, “You are not perfect or you would not be here.” We’re not here to have the perfect bodies and the perfect bank accounts and the perfect jobs and the perfect spouse—we’re here to heal our hearts. Now’s the time, I’d say, to lay the foundation for a fulfilling life. It’s not that you won’t stumble, but that you’ll stumble with grace. Not that you won’t fail, but you’ll fail with grace. […] My wish for everyone [listening] for the rest of the year is that whatever comes your way, if it’s a challenge, if it’s a difficulty, that you can learn from it.”

“Maybe you don’t need to make six figures a year. Or be married by the time you’re thirty. Or be team captain. Or sit in an ashram watching your in breath and out breath. Or have a pension. Or maybe those are exactly the things that you need to have and do to feel the way you want to feel. When you get real about the feelings that you crave, you might surprise yourself with some new choices. You’ll sign up for workshops you’d never considered. You’ll quit stuff. You could realise that you don’t need to be VP to feel powerful or useful, you just need to volunteer at the youth shelter. Maybe you don’t need that award, you just need to take better care of yourself. Clarity about your true desires is so liberating because you get to stop proving yourself to everyone (including yourself). Just think about that for a minute. No more proving.” (Excerpt from The Desire Map ultra-lite edition).
