If you were to picture your glamorous night in New York City, I doubt there would be tents involved. But a look at the camping experience atop the W Hotel might have you dreaming otherwise.
Based in the heart of Manhattan, the luxurious hotel is offering guests an alternative ‘room’: a 12-foot yurt on the rooftop terrace. At US$2000 per night, it may well be the most expensive camping you’ve ever heard of. But with a set-up to warrant Bear Grylls’ disapproval (and the inclusion of the ‘Extreme Wow’ suite below), it could be worth it.
What to expect:
The outdoor stay comes fit with all the camping essentials: a complete lounge area, rattan hanging chairs, glowing lanterns and more. And it wouldn’t be camping without a fire pit so you’ll find one of those too.
Designed by Laurel & Wolf, the entire terrace is reminiscent of a Moroccan safari. Every element is bedecked in a kaleidoscope of colours and textures to awaken your spiritual self. Plus, it has all the best elements of camping, including nature (you’ll find faux grass underfoot) and stargazing (and a canopy of fairy lights above), sin the worst: mosquitoes, wild bears and excreting in the bush.
It’s an urban oasis in the centre of the city that never sleeps. Needless to say, if you would like to, the tent was designed to block out enough noise for those much needed Z’s. And if that doesn’t work, you can always go downstairs into the suite below – it’s a two for one deal.
How to book:
Whether you’re after a romantic night for two or a weekend with the girls, the yurt has everything you need: candles for canoodling and pillows for a party. So for a tranquil escape without even leaving the city, book in to the W Hotel. It’s available from now until November.
