These 10 Top Food Trends Are Bound To Set The Tone Of 2021

As 2020 winds down, it seems as if the pandemic has had an impact on what we eat and how we eat it.

As this year winds down to a close, we’ve spent a hell of a lot of time in our kitchens. And time we have taken, a ton of it. There’s something about being able to cook, enjoy your food, and really learn a recipe. With the majority of this year spent inside, it’s no wonder top experts have predicted innovation as the theme of next year’s top food trends. Earlier this week, Whole Foods and their expert Trends Council released what they think will be hot commodities in the world of nutrition next year. Keep reading for more on what made the list of top food trends of 2021 below.

The Ten Top Food Trends Of 2021

1) Well-Being As A Food

In 2021, supplements become delicious dishes you can eat up for a dose of wellness. Superfoods, probiotics, broths, and kombucha. Vitamin C doses for glowy skin, mushrooms for calmness, and adaptogens for a stellar immune system.

2) Big A** Breakfast

We’ve been working from home all year, and we don’t know about you, but our breakfasts have been those of champions. Some, like us, try intermittent fasting while we answer morning emails, so we like a big breakfast at the beginning of the day. Pancakes, egg scrambles, sausage, and more! Sign us up.

3) Fancy Dinner Alternatives

So being home a lot makes you miss the days you were able to go out for dinner. It also makes you want to cook food that you’d have at those said dinners. But because wellness supersedes sugar, salt, and unhealthy food every night, we opt for something different. Black bean pasta, vegan soups, and sausage tempeh.

4) Coffee In Well … Everything

Coffee-flavored everything for the win! Think granola, smoothie boosters, ice cream, even yogurt according to the experts at Whole Foods.

5) New Year, New Oils

Olive oil is no longer the star of the show. Chefs are branching out with different oils. Think avocado, sunflower seed, and pumpkin seed oils. You can use them at high temperatures and in salad dressings. We still love good olive oil, like this one from Pineapple Collective.

6) Designer Baby Food

So you know how everyone is getting pregnant this year? Their babies are growing up during the age of wellness and they deserve the baby food of champions. Their on-the-go squeezy pouches are full of rhubarb, rosemary, and purple carrots.

7) Upcycled Food

Food waste, be gone! 2021 is the year we use all of our food. The things that would have been considered food waste in the past will become part of the dishes we know and love. You’d be surprised at how tasty they are!

8) The Chickpea Takes Center Stage

Chickpeas are the perfect replacement for anything. Hummus, falafel, chickpea pasta, you name it. They are rich in fiber and protein, so you’re staying healthy by choosing this option.

9) Jerky Is Here to Stay

Jerky is being made for everyone these days. From mushrooms to jackfruit, there’s absolutely nothing you can’t jerkify. The finishes on these babies are also trés delicious, with hints of chili, salt, and ginger to name a few.

10) Hard Kombucha

Hard kombucha is one of our absolute favorite, favorite things to drink in 2020. Expect more and more brands to come out with gluten-free, delicious, digestive drinks! A two-in-one punch! We love ourselves some JuneShine!
