Instagram inspires me in many different ways. Depending on whose feed I’m looking at, it may inspire me to hit the gym, do some food prep or book a holiday. Or, if it happens to be the feed of a fashion blogger, it inspires me to go out and buy things I don’t need! Scrolling through perfectly styled shots of the latest handbag or pair of sneakers gives me a serious case of fashion FOMO and makes me wonder “why is that not already in my wardrobe?”
Not only is this bad news for my bank balance, our constant need to buy the latest and greatest thing spells trouble for the environment, too. Not only does this fast fashion economy lead to a huge amount of textile waste (more than $140 million worth of clothing ends up in landfills each year in Australia), it’s often produced in unethical conditions like sweat shops.
It’s a reality that a growing number of socially aware and environmentally savvy women refuse to ignore. These green goddesses are popping up all over our Instagram feeds, showing us that living an eco-friendly life isn’t about forgoing showers or wearing hessian sacks. They’re living proof that a sustainable life can also be a stylish one. So, if you want to join the green living revolution but are in need of some inspiration, these are the cool chicks you should be following on Instagram.
