But the latest pore-purifying ingredient may be the craziest one yet. Leading natural K-Beauty brand Innisfree have started using volcanic ash in their products. Yep, you read that correctly! But, of course, there’s a method to the madness. It basically works in the same way charcoal does — dirt attracts more dirt.
Volcanic clusters are naturally porous, so they have a natural ability to absorb oil and gunk on your skin. They also deeply cleanse and gently exfoliate to minimize the look of your pores.

Innisfree responsibly sources the volcanic clusters from Jeju Island off the South Korean Peninsula. The bits of ash are sterilised at super high temperatures, before being extracted into their products. This isn’t the first time Innisfree have sourced their ingredients from the coast of Korea — they often use things like lava seawater and marine seaweed, as well as green tea, orchids and camellia.
