Here’s Why Adding Coffee When Intermittent Fasting Helps Health

From carbohydrate reduction to autophagy.

If you’re fasting, did you know that you don’t have to be just limited to water? We could argue back and forth on if the juice is allowed, but you’ve probably already made up your mind on that topic. So today we’re going to be talking about coffee, and the hidden secret that it is when it comes to fasting. Intermittent fasting is the process of shortening the window in which you eat to typically an eight-hour period (fasting windows may vary). During the 16 hours of not consuming any food, the body goes into the rapid cellular cleanup mode, known as autophagy. This process clears toxins, repairs cells, lowers inflammation, and allows the body to burn fat for fuel. We interview Nora Tobin, performance enhancement and executive coach to fortune 100 companies, nutrition specialist, and CEO of Nora’s Naturals Coffee, to discuss the benefits of intermittent fasting when incorporating coffee!

The Top Benefits of Intermittent Fasting with Coffee

By incorporating coffee into the fasting process, the body and brain will feel energized even in the absence of food. By fasting in the morning with coffee and any form of pure fat in the cup (heavy cream, grass-fed butter or coconut oil), the body stays in the fasted state while receiving the calories to feel satiated. The combination of intermittent fasting, exercise, and coffee suppresses mTOR. When this is suppressed it triggers muscle building and fat burning, resulting in better results from workouts. Coffee also speeds up metabolism because it has a thermogenic effect on the body. The combination of coffee and fasting will double down on the body’s natural fat-burning power.

1) Carbohydrate Reduction

There are several benefits that one may obtain from intermittent fasting with coffee. First, is that fasting helps reduce the number of carbohydrates in the body, which in turn, produces ketones that serve as an alternative and healthier source of energy in comparison to glucose. Drinking coffee also produces ketones in the brain to give you additional energy while keeping your carbohydrate count down.

2) Reduce Inflammation

Intermittent fasting and caffeine are both known to reduce chronic and systemic inflammation. Reducing body inflammation will also help prevent the body from getting various diseases!

3) Autophagy

Thirdly, both intermittent fasting and caffeine are successful ways to promote autophagy within the body. Autophagy is the process in which damaged cells in the body are removed to make way for new, healthier cell production. Combining these two together, you will be able to produce a strong renewal process within your body to maintain and build on your health.
