If you’re Misty Copeland, active wear needs to be more functional than Sunday brunch-approved. As a professional ballerina with the American Ballet Theatre—and the first African American Female Principal Dancer, might I add—she’s in the air more than she is on the ground. What she wears to train and rehearse in needs to be just as strong and agile as she is.
Active wear giant, Under Armour, understands this all too well. It’s one of the reasons they used Misty as the inspiration for their latest collection, UA Inspired by Misty Copeland. Reflecting Misty’s undeniable drive and unmistakable style, the 10-piece range comprises both training gear and off-duty items.
“My inspiration for the UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection was ensuring that each garment reflects my personal style (bright, glam, and flattering), whilst still providing the performance benefits needed for training and that you can expect from Under Armour,” Misty told us, when she was in town today for the launch.
So what can we expect from the range? In the sweat department, you’ll find the Misty AU High-Rise leggings (one of Misty’s favourites), which offer that second-skin feeling, along with the matching Misty Strappy Bralette with its unique back detailing. And for post-workout looks, we can’t go past the leather jacket, metallic tracksuit and two-tone grey kicks.
“Fashion to me is so much more than what you wear on your body. Similarly to dance, it’s a way of expressing your unique individuality and creativity. I’m looking forward to seeing how Australian women choose to style and incorporate these UA Inspired by Misty Copeland collection pieces into their wardrobe,” said Misty.
