Question — is there anything water can’t do? Want to improve your digestion and get radiant, glowing skin? Guzzle some h2O. Want to get smarter? Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Nursing a horrible hangover? Get some water in ya, stat! Yep, there’s no doubt water is amazing for our health (in fact, we need it to survive!) We also tend to feel and look about a million times better when we’re well hydrated. Despite all of this, it can be surprisingly difficult to remember to drink enough of it! We can have the best of intentions, only to realise by the end of the day that we’ve only had about 500 mLs. Then, we end up sculling a bunch of it before bed because we’re so thirsty — resulting in multiple bathroom breaks throughout the night! Luckily, there are a few super easy ways to trick yourself into drinking more of it throughout the day (and you won’t even realise you’re doing it!)

Supersize your bottle

I used to rely on standard sized water bottles to reach my daily water target. However, I realised that because I was constantly refilling it with cold water before it was empty, I had no idea how much I was actually drinking! Then, I was given a bottle from The Big Bottle Co and my water intake went through the roof. The BPA-free water bottle holds 2.2 litres (smack-bang on the recommended intake for women) and has markers so you can see how much you’ve consumed. Although it’s a big bottle, it’s wide and has a handle so it’s quite easy to carry. I keep mine on my desk at work and pour it into a glass so it’s easier to drink — and I’ve never felt better!

Get fruity

Let’s be honest, it’s a lot easier to sip on something that’s fruity and delicious than something bland and flavourless. So, why not add some cut up fruit to your bottle? Not only will it make it taste better and look pretty, you’ll also be getting the antioxidants from the fruit! A splash of lemon is always a great idea (especially in the morning) as it’s known to kickstart your metabolism. But you could also add some strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, orange, mint or whatever takes your fancy, really!

Use an app

There’s an app for everything these days — including reminding you to drink more water. In fact, there are a few! Not only do they allow you to track your intake, they also notify you when it’s time to drink some more. Some of our favourites are Waterlogged (iPhone) and Aqualert (iPhone and Android).

Go high-tech

Create rituals

One of the best ways to continue doing something long-term is to make it a habit. And one of the best ways to make something a habit is to create rituals! So, for drinking water, it could be something like having a glass with every meal or drinking one every time you’re about to go to the bathroom. Yes, it may be an effort to remember at first — but we guarantee within a few weeks it’ll just be second nature.
