What’s Behind the Obsession with this New Legal Kind of Cannabis?

Here's what you should know about Delta 8 THC.

With more and more states legalizing the recreational use of cannabis, new products are coming onto the market in a frenzy. One particular kind is called Delta 8 THC. It is technically legal (more on that later) and it’s somewhat of a gray area in the world of recreational marijuana. The flower of Delta 8 THC looks, smells, and tastes like marijuana when smoked. Late last year, it grew in popularity because of its effects and its legality to smoke in places where it’s still against the law to do so. We should warn you, it has not been FDA-tested or FDA-approved and you should speak to your doctor because introducing it to your body. We’ve done some research to see what all the hype is about and why it’s recently become very popular, like CBD. Keep reading for more!

What is Delta 8 THC?

According to Leafly, Delta 8 THC is a cannabinoid like CBD and Delta-9 THC (the one you usually find in marijuana) that gets you high and causes euphoria, happiness, sedation, symptom relief and much more. It’s said to feel like more of a body high. But of course, this depends on the amount you take and the method of intake. What’s the difference between Delta 8 THC and what you’re usually smoking? It has to do with the potency. The product is generally a lot less strong than the THC that is sold. In states where recreational pot use is considered legal, the product is much stronger.

Why is It Legal?

In common use, THC is usually the Delta 9 THC and it is mostly extracted from the marijuana plant. But Delta 8 is legal and growing in popularity because it is mostly taken from the hemp plant. It’s important to note that it can be taken from both the marijuana and hemp plant. But then in 2018, a farm bill was passed that allows for hemp to be legally grown and extracted anywhere in the United States. Because of this, Delta 8 became legal. It is in theory, a legal product that you can consume. But then again, it looks, tastes, and smells like marijuana.

Because of this, extractors everywhere have begun ramping up production to meet the new demand for it. They’ve also begun to ship it (legally) all over the United States. Would you try this type of THC for yourself?
