While it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the new year, we’re already thinking well into 2017. After all, who doesn’t like to stay ahead of the curve?
That’s why we asked Robyn Connelly, founder of Australian interiors label, Papaya, for her insight on the interior design trend that’ll shape the coming year.
A clean-cut simple aesthetic of natural materials, teamed with a Nordic influence, seem to be going strong for 2017. This back-to-basics trend allows any home to be melded around on-point monochrome stripes or accent metals (think industrial), mixed with timber or stone. – Robyn Connelly, founder of Papaya.
Scandinavian design is renown for its functionality and understated elegance, so we’re not surprised that this trend is set to reign supreme. Think clean lines, accents of wood to create warmth and layering of natural textures.
Now that you’re armed with the interior trend-of-the-moment, here’s Robyn’s top home decor tips and tricks.
3 ways to transform your home space
Make it personal
I love neutral tones, as it creates a blank canvas to add that something special of your own that you treasure. I have piles of my favourite books piled on my coffee table, which I’ve collected from all over the world and they bring me joy. Your home should reflect your personality so fill it with things you love, but less is more.
Update regularly
A total revamp may be a little excessive every season. But new accessories can do wonders for refreshing your living space and is good for the soul, too. Scatter cushions, crisp linen napery for entertaining, a beautiful oversized bowl to float flowers in or a set of unique hand-woven baskets can do a lot to liven and refresh your home.
Senses are everything
Texture, tones and scent work together to create ambience, harmony and a sense of wellbeing. For example, balance an intricately carved wall panel with softly fragranced candles. You’ll have a perfect environment that is both welcoming and calming.
