If you live in New York, chances are you’ve heard of The Butcher’s Daughter – the organic eatery, marketplace and self-described “vegetable slaughter house” founded by Heather Tierney.
But now, if you’re from the West Coast, you no longer have to wait for a trip to the Big Apple to sample their legendary vegetable-centric eats as their third venue has just opened in Abbot Kinney, Venice.
Executive chef Jermaine Jonas, co-founder of Juice NV in Las Vegas and the man behind multiple Juice Press locations in New York, will helm the kitchen at the sprawling 3,200-square-foot cafe and juice bar. On the menu are some of the New York outlet’s most popular dishes. Think smashed avocado toast, spicy kale Caesar, and vegan pizza made with house-made vegan cheese. Seasonal ingredients — baby carrots, purple cauliflower, and rainbow radishes — will also brighten up the new Butcher’s Bowls. And let’s not forget about the vegan brioche hamburger buns, “tuffins” (toast-shaped English muffins), and the gluten-free caramelised banana bread, which have been created by in-house pastry chef extraordinaire, Ignazio Zorzoli. If that isn’t enough to tickle your taste buds, there’s also an espresso bar and a vegetable “butcher” raw bar.

As for beverages, there’s an array of healthy juices and smoothies to choose from or if you’re after something a little stronger, their cocktails are made with the restaurant’s own cold pressed juices and house made tinctures. The Butcher’s Daughter’s private wine label is also available, including the ‘Slutty Red’ pinot noir, ‘Sassy White’ sauvignon blanc, and ‘Sexy Rose’ – with such fun names, how could you say no?!
Shoppers will also find a bevy of goods in the market area. We’re talking natural beauty products, handcrafted soaps, yoga mats, surfboards and other household goods.
The Butcher’s Daughter will also launch its mobile juice truck, aptly named Butcher’s Daughter Juice Truck, which will roam the Westside and make appearances at Venice’s First Fridays.
