Whenever a new health trend arrives in Australia, you can rest assured it will land in Bondi Beach first. The iconic coastal suburb is a haven for all things hip—it was filled with vegan cafes well before they went mainstream. So, it’s hardly surprising then, that Bondi is home to Sydney’s very first keto cafe.
Much to the excitement of carb-shunning Sydneysiders, Skinnys Bar and Grill on Campbell Parade open its doors last Friday. Everything on the menu is low-carb, gluten-free and sugar-free. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you should expect to be served plain grilled chicken with a side of lettuce. Their tagline is ‘low on carbs, fat on flavour’ and that ethos can be seen in their mouth-watering menu. They’re serving up keto-friendly versions of classic comfort food dishes like burgers, pizzas and loaded fries. For those with a sweet tooth, they also have plenty of low-carb cocktails and desserts.
From their breads and sauces to their ice-cream, everything is made in-house to ensure they’re free from gluten, chemical nasties and added sugar. They also have a range of vegan and vegetarian option. In dining at Skinnys, you’re not only doing good for your body, but for the environment, too—as $1 from every meal goes to the Black Dog Institute for mental health.
