There are three types of people in the world — milk chocolate, white chocolate or dark chocolate lovers. Sure, plenty of people have had a crack at creating different flavours of chocolate, like avocado or Rosé. But for the last 80 years (when white chocolate was invented) those have been the three core types. Until now, that is!
Swiss chocolate and cocoa company Barry Callebaut have invented a fourth type of chocolate — and it’s pink! Onya, Bazza. Called ‘Ruby’, the newfangled chocolately delight is crafted from ruby cocoa bean. Besides being super Instagrammable, the choc is said to be an ‘intense sensorial delight’ — a tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness.
Apparently, Barry Callebaut’s delicious new invention has been decades in the making. It was unveiled to a panel of chocolate connoisseurs in Shanghai today. Among the first to taste it was chocolate expert Angus Kennedy (who may have the best job in the world, BTW.) He reported to The Sun that it has a light, refreshing taste.
Ruby chocolate is very different and clever stuff. It tastes so light and fruity you don’t really realise you’re gobbling up one chocolate after the other, so it means consumers will be able to eat more of it than other types of conventional chocolate. Whether this a good or bad thing depends on your point of view.

In news that is surprising to precisely nobody, a spokesperson from Barry Callebaut revealed in a statement that the rosy chocolate was invented with millennial consumers in mind.
