It’s no secret that I travel a fair bit, but most of the time I’m travelling for work, sourcing what’s new in the fitness and wellness world for you. While I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to explore the world, finding time to enjoy it on my accord is most of the time non-existent (sad face). That was until last week when I had a travel experience of a lifetime…
Two weeks ago when work was getting the better of me, my husband surprised me with a trip to the UAE. Little did I know that this trip to the UAE desert resort called Qasr Al Sarab Anantara would totally change the way I perceived life. Yes, the resort is located in the desert which means hello 45 degree heat. At first, it is very confronting and claustrophobic, reminiscent of standing in front of a heater at home. I couldn’t escape it. But, at the end of my stay I actually enjoyed it (and miss it as I write this). There’s no humidity at all, just dryness. I must say, I’ve never seen my hair so smooth and frizz free. I guess the most notable part of the stay at this desert resort was the whole experience and “oneness” with the surrounding dunes. It’s almost like the moving dunes had cast a spell over me – so serene and breathtaking. Even the aromas of musks and Arabian spices floating around the resort captured my attention. The architecture was almost of a Moroccan influence and the foods…pita breads, hummus and tomato dips were absolutely incredible.
I’m sure most people would agree that getting away is almost impossible, but for me the fact that I have been super lucky with this holiday (saved up and spent wisely on my needs, not wants) has really showed me that there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored.
I value ‘me’ time because it resets my whole body and mind. I can’t stress enough the importance of finding balance and relaxing, away from the daily grind. It doesn’t have to be overseas, it can be a weekend escape. Just be sure to leave the emails, put down the phone and be in the moment with the surrounds and your loved ones. Balance is key.
There’s only been a few resorts in the world that not only are incredibly striking, but have acted on my emotions. Qasr Al Sarab ranks in my top two and The Post Ranch Inn up in Big Sur California is my number one. A truly breathtaking, magical experience and I highly recommend both places for anyone wanting to be enchanted by a life changing experience.
