As a master personal trainer, yoga coach, health journalist and food blogger, Cassie White is obsessed with all things health and fitness – which is exactly why we’re thrilled to have her on board as a Amodrn contributor and feature in our first fitness personality profile.
Here, she dishes on everything from her morning ritual to her guilty pleasure and the best piece of advice she’s ever received.
Getting to know you
Born: Emerald, Queensland.
Lives: Sydney.
Known for: My realistic and no-BS approach to health and fitness, my quick wit and being a solid cook.
Personal motto: Feel the fear and do it anyway.
Success is: Knowing your values and living according to them.
Advice I would give me 20yr old self: Don’t worry about anything – just focus on having fun and getting plenty of life experience under your belt.
People are surprised that I: Am actually quite shy because I’m the loudest personal trainer on the gym floor. My laughter can be heard in every corner of that place! But once my clients get me going . . .
I’m inspired by (person, place or idea): People who are great at what they do, are humble about it and share their knowledge freely. I’m lucky to have two amazing friends in the fitness industry who do exactly that: Claire Norgate and Daniel Bardallo. They’ve inspired me and helped me so much.
The biggest risk I have taken (that has paid off) is: Changing my career from full-time journalist to full-time personal trainer and yoga teacher. It was the best thing I ever did.
From my mistakes, I have learnt: Mistakes are where the magic happens. How we handle them and the lessons we learn is how we become better human beings.
My most used emoji is: The gun . . .
Out and about
Wake up time: 5:00am
Morning ritual: I can’t function without a hearty breakfast, strong coffee and 10 minutes of meditation before leaving the house.
Desk lunch: Gigantic colourful salad with a slab of hot-smoked salmon.
Last thing I do at night: Fall asleep reading a book.
Guilty pleasure: Watching Supernatural in my trackies and eating pick ‘n’ mix lollies.
3 things vital to my day: Eight hours’ sleep, some form of exercise, at least one laughing session.
Cafe: Sanduba, outside my gym.
Juice: Pear, blueberry and coconut.
Coffee: Black. Strong. Dash of milk.
Culture stop: The NSW State Library recently had an exhibition of famous rock ‘n’ roll photography. I’m a massive music fan, especially anything from the 90s and earlier, and most photos were of my childhood heroes. Admittedly it’s not much of a culture shock – unless you count all the terrible outfits!
Studio/gym: Fitness First Platinum, George Street Sydney.
Wardrobe
Tights: Lorna Jane ‘Amy’ tights – so flattering. I own several pairs.
Sports bra: Lululemon.
Sports bag: Nike backpack.
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Clubmaster Wood – I feel so rockin’ when I wear them.
Watch: Swatch.
Juice date go-to outfit: Sass & bide ‘mono clash’ shorts, GGDB trainers, band T-shirt.
Store: Rag & Bone.
New-season must have: Camilla and Marc ‘Harper’ drop crotch denim jeans.
Culture and tech
App: Lately, it’s Happn (All the single ladies, all the single ladies)
Website: thugkitchen.com. It’s healthy eating with a side of swearing.
Binge watch: Rake. Hands-down the funniest show you’ll ever watch.
