They say good things come to those who sweat. And when Madonna, Charlize Theron, and Jessica Alba are all seen coming out of L.A’s top-notch cycle studio Cycle House, then we’ll have whatever they’re having.
As one of the most in demand workouts in La-la land, Cycle House is fronted by celebrity trainer/TV personality/all-round lady boss, Nichelle Hines. Anyone who’s anyone has been spotted going to the grueling workout for a serious butt-kicker. In the effort of doing some good to your body, they’re also looking out for society, too.
Treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen
The tough-love approach, said to be part of the instructors’ charm at the studio, is what seems to have people coming back for more, and with a mantra like “Strength is in the struggle”, we think Gwyneth and Madonna aren’t just going for the complimentary shoes, aloe vera towels and alkalized water fountains. Say hello to increased stamina and a metabolism boost that could justify a few extra treats now and then. The boutique indoor cycling studio in West Hollywood is so popular, it recently opened a new venue down by the equally popular beach of Santa Monica (or SaMo, as they are now calling it), in order to accommodate the 20+ cyclers on the waiting list of each class.
Thanks to some strategically selected, performance enhancing tunes, the 55-minute sweat fest has you sprinting on intervals of high and low intensity, resting only to work a short time on your arms (if that can be considered rest). Speaking of rest, the studio also boasts a stretch-friendly outdoor area where you can lengthen those hamstrings whilst chatting with your fellow cyclers post-workout. Along with spacious locker rooms, showers, and the aforementioned complimentary goodies, we can see why most of L.A is hooked.
Cycling for a cause
The very special feature of the studio, apart from their high intensity workouts and carefully selected instructors, is in their 1-for-2 approach. For every ride you do at Cycle House, two meals are donated to a person in need. The result is over 550,000 meals donated to hungry Americans across the country.
“We’ve gone from about 40 die-hard riders to thousands of them—some of them have lost in excess of 100 pounds by working the Cycle House program. On top of that, the support and growth of our community has meant tens of thousands of dollars donated to charity” owners and founders Adam and Lara Gillman told Well + Good
