What better way to decide on your next getaway than with the help of one of Australia’s most successful fashion designers?
After 25 years of high-end fashion Collette Dinnigan has made her first foray into interior design with the renovation of two luxury penthouse suites at New South Wales’ south coast boutique hotel, Bannisters by the Sea.
Dinnigan’s inspiration was to capture the seaside coastal elegance of the suites in a relaxed and comfortable environment, while retaining her strong feminine aesthetic complete with luxury finishes. The result: two private sanctuaries that are reminiscent of beach houses you might find in the Hamptons (aka home décor fantasies come true!). Think timber-pannelled walls, Carrera marble bathroom vanities, uninterrupted ocean views and beautiful textiles by designers including Penny Morrison, Kathryn Ireland and Carolina Irving – yes, please!
Both suites also have a collection of botanical and coral sea life sourced from French markets, as well as charts, fabrics and furniture from Dinnigans’s travels across the world. Artworks around the suites are a collection of sea-themed works by Australian artist Martine Emdur as well as Hugh Stewart photographs and vintage surf photographs by John Witzig.
However, possibly the best feature is the expansive balconies. Choose from sun lounges, cane chairs and ottomans or an antique Indian daybed from which to enjoy the views – bliss.
And if you do choose to leave the suite (we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t), a day sap, infinity pool and Rick Stein’s superb restaurant is just a stone’s throw away.
So next time you’re on the lookout for a luxurious getaway, make a beeline for this beauty.
