Thinking of making a getaway for the sandy shores this weekend? With Labour Day weekend just around the corner State Side, the Amodrn team gathered round for a little mental beach combing in the office. From the west to the east coast, here’s our pick of nine of the best beaches in the USA.

Anna Maria Island
Where: Florida
Take it from a local when I say that Florida’s coastline is home to some of the most pristine beaches in the world, let alone the USA. I say this in a completely un-biased way, but having felt the baby powder like sand between my toes, I have yet to find a beach with the same quality. The coastline from Ana Maria Island down to Siesta Key stretches along the mid-west coast of Florida and is connected to the mainland by various bridges. This means that you will have the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the stunning orange sunsets you thought only existed on the Internet. Dolphins included.
Haven Beach, Kauai
Where: Hawaii
It comes as no surprise that Hawaii, and more specifically the island of Kauai, has breathtaking beaches. With magnificent mountains pouring into the ocean and waterfalls at every turn, Ha’ena is a little known haven. The state park is a must-visit with lush green jungles sitting alongside with the popular Maniniholo dry cave. Be sure to grab a hydrating coconut at one of the side street vendors along the road.
Point Dume, Malibu
Where: California
California is known for its fantastic weather, healthy hotspots and variety of beaches up and down the coast. Amodrn’s own Bianca Cheah hails Malibu’s Point Dume as one her favourite beaches, and we have to say that after a quick Google search, it doesn’t disappoint.
Ditch Plains Beach, Montauk
Where: New York State
Stretching along New York’s Long Island, Montauk is known for its wide ocean beaches. It boasts a variety of natural, undeveloped beaches that is suited to the beachcomber as well as the action packed adventurer.
Kapalua Bay Beach
Where: Hawaii
Set on the picturesque island of Maui, Kapalua Bay Beach is known as one of the most beautiful in Hawaii with it’s long stretches of white sand, pristine waters, and abundant sea life. It’s hailed a snorkelling and scuba diving sanctuary, boasting a myriad of coral and fish. In addition, it’s a totally kid friendly beach so the whole family can enjoy.
Venice Beach
Where: California
Don’t be fooled by it’s Muscle Beach reputation. With its tall palm trees and wide stretch of sand, there’s more going on at this California hotspot than just lifting weights. With a skatepark and colourful boardwalk, it’s a great place to people watch, ride your bike, go for a surf or just tan on the beach. Although less secluded than the others on our list, we love the vibrant energy of this playful beach town, along with the stunning Venice canal and neighbouring houses.
Key West
Where: Florida
Ernest Hemingway had a house on Key West and wrote many successful novels living on the island, and by the looks of it, we can see where he found his inspiration! Nothing beats the crystal clear waters of Key West, along with the colourful houses and relaxed island life. It is the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway.
La Jolla Cove
Where: California
As the name suggests, La Jolla is a small scenic cove surrounded by cliffs. It’s calm waters is popular with families, snorkelers and scuba divers alike. It’s also hailed the most photographed beach in San Diego.
South Beach, Miami
Where: Florida
It comes as no surprise that South Beach made the list. After all, it is home to Art deco hotels, amazing shopping, perpetual sunshine and the best cuban food available. Everyone from Victoria Secret Angels, to Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio have frolicked on the white sand beaches, mojito in hand. Be sure to ride your bike down the boardwalk before hitting the night scene on the infamous Ocean Drive.
