How This Training Shoe Is Helping Save Our Oceans

Sustainable sportswear.

Sustainable sportswear is something we’re extremely passionate about here at Amodrn. Recently, we wrote about how this Aussie activewear brand managed to turn 94,300 plastic bottles into clothing last year and in turn, save them from going into landfill.
Although there are all sorts of great things happening in the area of sustainability, one that is currently on our radar is the return of the worldwide initiative, Run For The Oceans, supported by sportswear giant, adidas, in conjunction with Parley for the Oceans.
Since 2015, the partners have been working together to prevent plastic from entering our oceans and, like Aussie startup, Nimble Activewear transforms it into performance sportswear.
Run For The Oceans is a global running movement whereby adidas and Parley host over 12 major running events across key cities worldwide including Sydney, New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Barcelona, Milan and Shanghai to help raise awareness for the threat of marine life.

Taking the initiative to the next level in 2018, adidas has pledged to match every kilometre that is run with US$1 for the first million kilometres. Money raised will support the Parley Ocean School Program, which aims to teach the next generation about the impacts of marine plastic pollution.
Cyrill Gutsch, Founder of Parley for the Oceans says: “Every second breath we take is created by the oceans. Still, we are killing its life at rapid speed. We are hosting Run for the Oceans with adidas to step out of our routine, to take a deep breath and to reflect on how important the sea is for every one of us. And to show that millions of little steps can make a huge difference for our movement.”

Andre Maestrini, General Manager, adidas Sports Business Units adds: “At adidas, we believe that sport has the power to change lives and the Run For The Oceans movement truly reflects this. We have created a unique global platform that gives everyone the opportunity to impact their lives by joining a collective running movement that fights marine plastic pollution. Seeing the adidas family unite for a shared purpose is what makes the campaign so powerful.”
Each pair of adidas’ limited edition UltraBOOST Parley and UltraBOOST X shoe prevents approximately 11 plastic bottles from the possibility of entering our oceans.
