This fitness studio has a crystal-embedded floor to balance your energy

"the class" is the spiritually charged sweat session, sweeping the U.S.

It’s no secret that the US fitness scene is booming, with innovative studios opening left and right.
However there is one workout that stands out amongst the masses, defying categorisation and rendering itself to be ingeniously liberating for the mind, body and soul. The class is the New-York-born brain child of fitness entrepreneur, Taryn Toomey, a mover and shaker in the literal (and business) sense of the word.
Her spiritually-charged, unique workout has gained traction in New York, and now Hollywood, thanks to the cathartic, primal-like nature of the moves and method. Celebrities and models alike have been flocking en masse to get rid of the emotional, mental and physical “sludge” (as Toomey herself likes to call it) that is said to inhabit our bodies and minds. Hence, it would not be unusual to spot Kate Hudson or Naomi Watts shaking and pounding the floor whilst simultaneously screaming to flush out any negative energy.

So, what really is “the class”?

Simply described as a combination of aerobic cardio, yoga and breath work, the 75-minute class focuses on releasing the body by performing certain moves.

“You shake, you pulse, you bounce, and you use sound to break open and activate stagnant ‘layers’ in the body where stress, tension, and emotions are stored. In the class you build a lean, strong body and cleanse the emotional and spiritual self through intense physical exertion, therapeutic instruction, and heart-pumping music,” taryntoomey.com

Better yet, see it here for a more accurate idea. It’s the intense, mentally-liberating aerobic moves like burpees and jump squats combined with yogic philosophy that has gripped the attention of many. That and Toomey’s contagious charisma.

And what about the studio?

Following the immense success of ‘the class’, Toomey is set to open her first ‘energetically balanced’ studio in New York, boasting features unlike any other (read: crystal-embedded floors that balance your energy). She recently spoke to Well + Good about the new additions, including the light oak floor that’s been specially sprung to absorb impact, with amethyst, rose and clear quartz beneath it in order to enhance and facilitate “the energetic flow of the space.” In fact, every aspect of the studio was designed to be soft on the eye and to create a “harmonious, ethereal, calming feel.”
And what spiritually innovative studio would be complete without its own scent and custom jewellery? The website boasts beautifully designed crystal gems “The AireLume” featuring “super-charged, potent stones” for energetic balance and wellbeing.
And good news for us Aussie souls in need of spiritual unclogging, an online platform is soon to be released with membership-based classes that will stream directly to your home screen. So we too can trial this much hyped about cleanse without the expensive plane ride over. Our floors may need an upgrade however, not sure the office carpet (aka Sporte The Frenchie’s playground) has quite the same balancing effect.
The class’ official studio in New York is now open, but you can visit their website to find a class at one of their Los Angeles spaces.
