It’s no secret that lush indoor plants are the perfect way to brighten up any home. Surrounding yourself with foliage has been proven to boost creativity, reduce stress and improve air quality.
But we all have busy lives, and between working, exercising and having a social life, it can be all too easy to forget to water your greenery. Still, there’s something strangely heart-wrenching about realising your favourite houseplant is on its last legs. Luckily, these indoor plants have a reputation for being virtually indestructible.

Spider plant

Don’t let the name put you off: you won’t find any eight-legged creatures clinging to this bad boy! Also known as the airplane plant, it gets its name from the spider-like flowers that dangle from its leaves. The spider plant is one of the most low maintenance shrubs out there, as all it needs is indirect sunlight and a quick spritz with a water bottle no more than twice a week.

Peace lily

You don’t need a green thumb to look after this gorgeous house plant. Heck, it’s so low maintenance that you barely even need thumbs at all! The peace lily is most at home in a spot with low light and low humidity. Give it a light water just once a week to see its curving white blooms flourish.

Philodendron

No doubt you’ve come across this green beauty on plenty of home inspo Instagram accounts before. The good news is, the philodendron is just as easy to care for as it is popular! They thrive on low light and prefer to be on the dry side, so avoid watering it more than once a week.

Mother-in-law’s tongue

We would never recommend you ignore your mother-in-law, but her plant namesake can handle a bit of neglect! Also known as the snake plant, this houseplant is perfect for beginner gardeners. It can tolerate both low light and full sun and can survive months without being watered. Just keep an eye on its long, sword-like leaves and water when they’re looking a bit dry.

Pothos

This cute indoor plant is as undemanding as they come! They’re ideal if you’re looking to spruce up your bathroom or office, as they can tolerate low light. The pothos plant is also extremely versatile, as it can be grown in dry soil or a vase of water. All you need to do to keep it out of direct sunlight and give it a splash of water when its heart-shaped leaves begin to droop.
