Here at Amodrn HQ, there is little in life that makes us feel more healthy than a big green smoothie. Well, in theory at least. Sure, they’re packed with nutrients, but after three sips, they tend to taste like grass (hey, we’re just being honest!).
Thankfully, Bannie Williams came to our rescue. When we mentioned our predicament, she was more than happy to share two delightfully delicious green smoothie recipes from her debut book, The Smoothie Manifesto. She promises they’ll give you plenty of energy and that sought after green-smoothie-glow. Best of all, they’re super easy to make.

Green Smoothies That Don’t Taste Like Grass
Island Colada
This delicious and hydrating pina colada-esque smoothie is designed to help eliminate toxins and fight free radicals. It is also a rich source of fibre and healthy fats to nourish the skin and help create a luminous glow. A blissful breakfast or post-yoga delight.
Ingredients:
1 banana, chopped
1 cup frozen mango, chopped
½ cup pineapple, chopped
1 cup kale
2 tablespoons coconut yoghurt
1 tablespoons flaked almonds
½ cup coconut water
Method:
Blend until smooth and serve.
Green Monster
Despite the title, this is a delicious and refreshing green smoothie for beginners. It has a low GI for a slower energy release and has an abundance of almond and avocado protein to fill any unwanted hunger gaps. Perfect for refuelling the body pre or post workout.
Ingredients:
1 green apple
¼ avocado
1 cup spinach
8 raw almonds
1 cup coconut water
Method:
Blend until smooth and serve.
