On a scale of 1 to 10—10 being the highest—how much do you love this game? As much as us, we hope! This week, we’re back with #DishingWithAmodrn where yogi, good friend of Amodrn and author of e-book, Energize, Claire Grieve, let’s us take a peek inside her kitchen. What did we find? Everything you’d expect from a dedicated yogi, including lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and gut-loving ingredients. And quite frankly, we’re impressed. Over to you, Claire!
First thing in the am, what is your go-to wellness food/drink you consume?
I drink a large 1L bottle of water each day as soon as I wake up as it helps get your digestion moving. I am a big fan of intermittent fasting, so I don’t usually eat anything for breakfast. Starting around early lunchtime, I’ll have a celery juice on an empty stomach, 30 minutes later, I’ll enjoy a Green Goddess Smoothie and Matcha Almond Milk Green Tea Latte.
What is the weirdest thing in the name of wellness that you have consumed?
I love trying new wellness trends and testing out what can truly benefit my overall health. From IV vitamin drips, activated charcoal pills, medicinal mushrooms to CBD infused oil and foods. I just started adding Moringa powder to my daily smoothies. A super-green ‘miracle tree’ with powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s packed with double the protein and iron of spinach.
If you could pick 3 foods to eat for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Smoothies, avocados and berries (any kind!). The fresh fruit from the smoothies and berries makes me feel instantly energized, as they are full of vitamins and antioxidants. The healthy fats from avocados taste great on everything — I eat them on salads, in smoothies, and even on their own — they leave me feeling satisfied for a long time.
What food habits do most people not know about you?
I have a major sweet tooth and used to be addicted to sugar. I would eat chocolate for breakfast! I feel so much better now that I eat mostly just plants.
What is your spirit vegetable?
Mint leaves, because I bring fresh, crisp energy into every situation… and dairy-free mint cacao hot chocolate, because I’m fresh, fun, warm and comforting with a rich depth of spirituality.
Name your must-have item in the kitchen.
A blender. The Vitamix is a great all-purpose blender for blending serious smoothies, soups and sauces. I also love my NutriBullet for when I’m on the run.
My Green Goddess Smoothie and Matcha Green Tea with Almond Milk… I drink these all day long.
Go-to guilty pleasure?
Still chocolate, but not for breakfast! And dairy-free, organic, fair trade, dark chocolate.
I like to drink warm turmeric golden milk prepared with homemade almond milk before bed. It is warming, soothing and has amazing anti-inflammatory benefits.
If I looked in your fridge now, what’s the first thing that I will see. And be honest…
My fridge is always overflowing with real food. I love going to the market and buying a variety or organic, in-season colourful fruits and veggies. You can always find lots of greens like spinach, kale, zucchini, and mint (to add flavor to salads and smoothies).
We are coming into fall [in the US] so right now, there is an abundance of squash in my fridge. I love to roast all types of squash and add to my buddha bowls, smoothies and energy bites.
I also keep lots of healthy liquids like coconut water, green juice, iced tea to keep hydration fun, as well as apple cider vinegar, turmeric shots and probiotics for gut healthy. You can also find beauty products like vegan under eye patches and face masks in my fridge. Keeping these cool is soothing and brings down any swelling. In my freezer, you’ll find lots of organic frozen fruits and veggies for my smoothie. I also have a bottle of tequila for special occasions. My pantry is chock full of superfoods and ancient grains.
