Whether you’re a beach-babe champagne or a striking shade of platinum, blonde hair is notoriously tough to maintain. And I should know, I’m blonde! Of course, I rely upon my long-time hairdresser for my regular root touch ups. But, outside of the salon, I count on a few products to keep my strands looking healthy, cool and bright—not yellow or brassy. And, today, I thought I’d share them with you. Keep scrolling for the inside scoop.
The Sulphate-Free Shampoo
Redken’s Blonde Idol shampoo is one of the best products I’ve come across for maintaining healthy hair. It’s sulfate-free and pH balanced, meaning it helps to hydrate and smooth colour-weakened locks, without weighing it down. Plus it has kerabond and violet leaf extract, which keeps my colour looking bright.
The Purple Conditioner
While everyone’s hair is different, it’s a general rule of thumb to use a toning purple conditioner once a week. Sure, they look a little crazy because of their colour, but trust me, these products are the secret to neutralising yellow/brassy tones. A few of my favourites include evo’s Fabuloso Colour Intensifying Conditioner, Davines’ Alchemic Silver Conditioner, and Christophe Robin’s Shade Variation Care Baby Blond. Just be careful you don’t leave them on for too long because you run the risk of turning your hair a light shade of violet.
The UV Protectant
If you want to preserve your colour and avoid excessive breakage, you should be just as diligent when protecting your hair from the sun as you are protecting your skin. Look for hair products that contain UVA/UVB filters, like Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil.
The Shine Serum
When it comes to a styling my strands, a smoothing serum is an absolute must-have! It helps create shine, softness and a frizz-free finish. I always reach for Davines’ Oi Absolute Beautifying Potion (which smells divine!) or O&M’s Frizzy Logic, because they both tame unruly flyaways without making my hair look greasy.
