Selena Gomez is one of those celebs you just can’t help but love. While she could have very easily gone down the typical ‘Disney star gone off the rails’ path, she’s managed to stay remarkably grounded and normal throughout the years. In situations where she’s the target of backlash (like when she was body shamed while recovering from kidney surgery), she always takes the high road and sets a good example for other young women. But what we love most about her (apart from her killer pipes) is that she uses her remarkable influence to give back to causes she’s passionate about.
Most recently, she’s used the power of a great pair of sneakers to raise more than $100,000 for the Lupus Research Alliance. She’s teamed up with Puma to create the Phenom Lux—her first foray into shoe design. The stylish shoe is an elevated take on PUMA’s newest Phenom silhouette, including the En Pointe range—recently modelled by Selena herself.
As the name suggests, the sneakers are both phenomenal and luxe! The sleek, all-white sneaker comes with gold accents and a removable ankle bracelet and is best worn with a pair of PUMA’s new sheer windowpane socks—an accessory for which Selena also lent her vision. The sneakers fuse fashion with functionality, thanks to the IGNITE foam and feather-light midsole, which provide superior energy return, cushioning and support.

“It’s been really fun to work so closely with PUMA on the design of this shoe. I’m also proud to partner with them in helping to affect lives and bring attention to a cause that is very important to me personally,” says Selena Gomez.
Selena has been incredibly open about her experience with Lupus, which she has battled since 2013. It’s an autoimmune disease which occurs when your body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organ. The Lupus Research Alliance is the world’s leading private funder of Lupus research, fostering scientific advancement by pushing limits and shepherding new discoveries into potential treatments with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for Lupus.
Sneakers for a good cause? Don’t mind if we do! Here in Australia, the Phenom Lux launched last Friday at PUMA stores in Westfield Miranda, Chatswood Westfield and Melbourne Central and is also available online. Get in quick, though, as it’s an exclusive drop with limited qualities!
