Yoga may be the one place you go for peace and quiet, but this is set to change with music playing a bigger role in yoga classes than ever before. And Sydney’s brand new studio, Urban Yoga, is leading the way.
The brainchild of founder Jacinta McDonnell, Urban Yoga is set to transform the way Sydneysiders practice yoga with its unconventional and unique philosophy. It takes all the great parts of yoga practice and packages it into a fresh environment with a contemporary soundtrack curated by L.A. based artist DJ Jackmore (think everything from indie tunes to hip hop beats) and awe-inspiring visuals on a super sized screen.
While the concept may seem somewhat contradictory, Urban Yoga promises to reinvigorate you both mentally and physically through its sensory immersion, transporting you from the mat and your mind so you can disconnect.
“After years of attending yoga and Bikram classes, I felt there was something missing from current practices, which lack consistency and are often restrictive in their offerings and so I wanted to create something new. Urban Yoga was designed to connect anyone and everyone to the mat by combining the rhythm of music, the aesthetics of curated visuals and the assistance of great instructors to create a style of yoga that looks better, sounds better and feels better.
“With Urban Yoga, we have created a space for people to connect to a yoga practice in a way that has never been done before and provide something really special for people to experience, ” says founder Jacinta McDonnell.
