Set between the desert and the sea, Dubai is one of those lavish cities with something to discover around every corner. With its skyscrapers and endless sand dunes, walking through the futuristic global city, also dubbed “the shopping capital of the Middle East”, will have you scouring the souks of the Dubai Creek and unearthing treasures within one of their many, many boutiques along the way. Safe to say shopping is a well esteemed past time in the Arabian desert. Amodrn’s own Bianca Cheah recently came back from this oasis, known for its extravagance and high temperatures, with a few noteable destinations and venues to try out for your next adventure.
Hailing all the way from Paris is a little concept store that is making a big impact in Dubai. Set aside from the great malls and shops of the town center, Comptoir 102 is the creation of two French buyers and lovers of all things chic: Emanuelle Sawko and Alexandra de Montaudin.
As a well established, international melting pot in the heart of old Jumeira, all things fashion, furniture, jewellery and food (it boasts an organic café!) come together to create a space for you to relax and bask in the culture of art and fresh pressed juices.
Inspired by their travels, the store is decorated with a blend of Parisian, Middle Eastern and North African influences. The owners seek the globe for unique and serendipitous finds to bring back and share within their little sanctuary amongst the palm trees.
The café’s seasonal menu varies in relation to the locally sourced, organic food on hand. Not to mention tasty smoothies with names like Golden Milk (Almond milk, turmeric, pepper, cinnamon, cardamom and raw honey) and Smooth Kale (Kale, banana, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and almond milk). The jewlery and clothing is a careful, conscious selection from boutique designers whose names will only make you sound like a French know-it-all (think Choux a la Crème and Petite Fritture), along with delicate gemstones and trinkets that you would happily overstack around your body, while sipping a green juice and sitting under a solemn palm tree.
