Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia is over for another year, and it is safe to say the athleisure movement is far from fleeting.
This year was the first in which the event had moved from its traditional Spring/Summer slot in April to become a Resort-focused showcase in May, with a day dedicated solely to swim and activewear brands.
From look-at-me hues, sporty-chic silhouettes, neoprene fabrics to sleek backpacks, sport luxe ruled on (and off) the runways.
Here are five lust-worthy collections that captured our attention:
Duskii
Duskii are known for their luxe (and super flattering) neoprene swim wear, and their Resort 17 Collection did not disappoint. Think glamorous monochrome two-pieces and plunging one-pieces, with a few pops of colour, complete with single hoop earrings and sporty accessories. We’ll take one of everything, thank you very much!
Cynthia Rowley
For Resort 17, the Cynthia Rowley woman is fun, adventurous and not afraid of colour. Models stormed the runaway in ready-to-wear, fitness apparel and her signature surf-friendly wetsuits (with some even toting her brand new surfboards) to the sounds of drumming orchestra, African Beat.
P.E. Nation
Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning’s first collection at MBFWA most definitely wowed the crowd. Models stood on a raised platform, sporting 90’s inspired colour block track pants, sleek crop tops, tennis skirts, basketball shorts, bomber jackets and swimwear (new to the label). We can’t wait to get our hands on the sexy and sporty range.
Aqua Blu
Aqua Blu’s showcase captured the essence of summer, with bold colours, feminine silhouettes and gem-embellishments. One model even rocked a full-length tulle skirt over a one-piece, marking a bold departure from traditional swimwear showings.
Palm Swimwear
Modern, elegant and extremely wearable, the latest Palm Swimwear collection was a hit with the crowd, and had us dreaming of a sun-drenched Europe sojourn. We loved the neutral colour palette, sexy back details, and stylish prints that could easily transition from beach to bar.
