Jules Sebastian is one of those women who just seems to have it altogether. Stylist, business woman, wife to Guy Sebastian and mother to two beautiful boys, Jules tells Amodrn that no matter how busy she gets, she always makes time for self-care. Her and Guy have especially made health a fitness a huge priority in their lives over the past year or so (side note: have you seen their super fit and fab bods?) and admits that she wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jules at a few media events this year and have been dying to sit down with her properly, so here, we pick her brains about everything she does to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Keep scrolling for more!
Have you always had a passion for health and wellness or has there been a distinct shift in your approach to living a healthy life?
I’ve always kept relatively active, however in mid-2017, Guy and I made the conscious decision to really make health and our wellbeing a priority. When I first became serious about my health and fitness I was motivated by feeling better overall about myself.
How would you describe your health and nutrition philosophy?
My health and nutrition philosophy is about the way I feel not how I look. I love to motivate myself and track my progress with my Fitbit Versa to keep on top of my goals. Being healthy and happy is a huge priority for me and my family, as the healthier we all feel the happier we are.
Can you take us through a typical day for you?
6.30am: Had a crazy morning getting the kids out the door for school, so I made myself some warm water with fresh lemon and ran out the door.
9.00am: Dropped the kids to school and swung by Crazy Ray’s in Maroubra for an Acai bowl. Ate it (and spilled it!), in the car on the way to meet two girlfriends for The Bay Run walk. We walked (and half ran) 6.5km and I clocked my 10,000 steps on my Fitbit before 11am which never happens! Did a little happy dance because I love hitting my Fitbit goals!
11.30am: Drove to our office for a meeting about my new website that will be launching very soon. Sat with my computer and got back to emails and prepared for a Tea with Jules interview for the following day. Lunch was a chicken, avocado, tomato, edamame, lettuce and soba noodle salad which I prepared the night before and brought to the office.
2.45pm: Came home to prepare a chicken curry in the Thermomix – my new bestie, and is an absolute winner with the kids and the husband.
8.30pm: Finally sit down for the day with a liquorice tea and a row of Cadbury chocolate. Phew!
Ultimate guilty food pleasure?
Definitely Cadbury chocolate.
What does your workout regime currently look like?
I definitely prioritise getting a workout in most days, my routine consists of both resistance and cardio training about 4 days a week. I like to train in the gym so I can use the machines to help me target different muscle groups each time I train. I train more intensely throughout the week and on the weekend, I like to be more active outdoors by playing with my sons and going on walks.
How do you juggle life as a busy mum and career woman?
Finding balance is hard, especially when you’re juggling work, a family, your friends and, most importantly time for yourself. I think if you look after yourself, juggling the other bits feels so much easier. Scheduling time to do things you enjoy, whether it is jogging or coffee with friends, is the first step to finding balance. I also love setting reminders on my Fitbit to help me manage it all.
What does your “ME time” or self-care practice look like?
No matter how busy I get I make sure I take time for myself every day to focus on self-care. I take 2 minutes each day to go through a relaxing meditation session with guided breathing on my Fitbit Versa. This can be before an interview or just as I wake up, whatever I need to prepare myself for what’s ahead.
Being from Adelaide, can you share with us some of your favourite healthy cafe spots?
Adelaide is a great city if you want to hit up healthy café spots some of my favourites include, Argo on The Parade for a delicious Acai bowl, Nutrition Republic for a raw treat and Let Them Eat in the Central Markets for a veggie packed lunch.
If we looked in your wardrobe right now, what would we find the most of?
I’m fairly classic and neutral with colour for my day to day outfits so there is a lot of black, white and grey basic pieces that are easy to throw on and that go with everything!
What is your number one fashion styling tip that never fails?
You don’t have to choose comfort over style to still be stylish. There are most definitely clothes that you are able to live your busy life in that isn’t activewear!
What’s next for Jules? Are you working on any exciting projects that you can share with us?
I am so happy with all my projects right now – the biggest one of all is of course raising my two boys! They are so active and awesome and we are always on an adventure. I love working with Fitbit and find that I am more motivated than ever to live a healthy life. Tea with Jules is buzzing along with some really exciting and inspiring interviews coming up to finish the year strong. We are also working towards our annual Carols event for The Sebastian Foundation where we will be raising money for people experiencing Domestic Violence. The Foundation is such an incredible way for us to reach people and give back to the community.
