We have some suggestions to help you out this winter. Below, you’ll find everything from gentle pH-balancing cleansers to color-correcting primers for those suffering from redness, irritation, and rosacea. Keep reading below for some of our favorite ways to get through!
A Simple Routine for Reducing Redness
1) Gently cleanse with a pH balancing cleanser
Calm your skin and get it in perfect pH balance for the day with Balancing Cleanser. Rich in Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, this rich and creamy cleanser repairs the skin’s acid mantle and will not strip its natural oils. Also, we love this one from Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser ($44). Redness-alleviating ingredients include Vitamin E & aloe vera.
Wash away the day’s grime and irritants with a double cleanse using Balancing Cleanser. The first application will remove any dirt, bacteria and/or makeup, while the second ensures anything which could upset your skin is completely gone, and the second will return your skin to its optimum natural pH to help retain the integrity of the lipid barrier.
2) Deeply hydrate with an anti-inflammatory serum and/or moisturizer
This serum from Monastery Made is incredible (Monastery Flora Botanical Cream Serum, $118). This lightweight, creamy serum is fortified with low and medium weight hyaluronic acids, plus nutrient-dense fruit and floral oils to hydrate and nourish the skin. This unique product is a melding of textures—more lightweight than your average cream, but creamier than your average serum. It’s a true multitasker—it hydrates, prevents visible signs of aging, soothes, firms, and brightens thanks to skin-nourishing acids like ximenynic acid, ellagic acid, hyaluronic acid, and phytosterols.
This serum from Alpha-H is one of our favorites (Alpha-H Vitamin B Serum, $70). However, the redness-alleviating ingredients are chia seed and niacinamide. Gently smooth a couple of drops of Vitamin B serum over your skin, avoiding the eye and lip area. Also, this silky and hydrating serum helps to heal, improve microcirculation and repair the skin’s lipid bilayers.
However, we love this botanical glycerin ingredient for winter redness. The Orveda Rich Brew Botanical Cream, ($410). Also, an intensive and comprehensive daily moisturizer, designed to act on all the foundations that lie at the origin of beautiful, healthy-looking skin. It is ideal for normal, dry or very dry skin, including sensitive skin, looking for a rich, yet a non-oily daily treatment. It boosts hydration for 8 hours (up to +87%), smoothes the appearance of dehydration lines and wrinkles (-36%)*, boosts skin’s natural healthy glow (+30%) reducing redness, firms the appearance of facial contours (+34%)*, while giving dry skin a luxurious, dewy look.
You can also try Herbivore Lapis Oil ($72) Also, this oil holds a component called Azulene which aids in soothing dry irritated skin, reducing the appearance of redness and balancing skin.
3) Color-correct and protect with a CC Cream + SPF
Dr. Jart+ even has its own color correcting line, including its star player, the Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correct Treatment, SPF 30, ($52). Dr. Jart+ ‘s hero product, a green-to-beige color-correcting treatment that corrects redness and helps protect skin from environmental aggressors. It provides SPF 30 protection from UV light, and it forms a dust barrier to protect the skin from the environment while enhancing the skin’s viability. It restores the strength of skin with the resurrection plants, houttuynia cordata, and yarrow. Also, it’s infused with sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. This is to help improve the skin’s moisture levels and restore fatigued skin for a healthy appearance. Shop the entire Cicapair line or the festive holiday kit.
Another product we love is the Erborian CC Color Correcting & Redness Reducing Broad Spectrum SPF 25, ($44). CC Red Correct’s green pigments help conceal redness and imperfections while a higher concentration of Centella Asiatica than Erborian’s CC Crème, helping deliver radiance and hydration for, especially redness-prone skin tones. Broad-spectrum SPF 25 helps protect skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays.
However, the Smith & Cult Diffuse Redness Balancing Primer, ($32) is also a problem-solving primer. Smith & Cult’s Diffuse Redness Balancing Primer instantly balances redness for a more even complexion. Also, it’s packed with soothing banana extract & vitamin B5, the gel-lotion formula applies cool, calm & collected. Apply under makeup to prep, or wear alone. Micro-blur finish.
