Here’s How An Editor Spends A Weekend in Miami

Where to eat, play, and stay.

As a former Californian who’s left her roots for New York, I long for sunny days more often than not. Which is why when it comes close to wintertime (and pretty much any time, to be honest), I whisk off to Miami in search of the sun, the beach, and all of what this amazing southern hotspot has to offer. I’m a big fan of house music and Cuban food, so running around this city for a few days is the reset I need every few months to keep me going in NYC. Whether you’re going in search of art or to try any of Miami’s food scene, I’ve got a few recommendations you’ve got to try while you’re there.  Let me take you through a typical few days with me traveling to Miami, Florida and tell you where I stay, dine, and even play. Keep reading for more!

Where to Stay: The Standard, Miami

You could say that I’m a little more than obsessed with The Standard in Miami. As soon as you walk in, you’re transported into almost a museum-like atmosphere, with beautiful art deco pieces surrounding you in the midst of palm trees galore—like the set of Love Island upgraded times a million. Each room offers a small outdoor space with a bathtub (yes, outside) and the comfiest bed you’ll probably ever sleep in. A few hundred feet away, you can find yourself at their stunning pool, complete with indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy playground, complimentary to hotel guests. Did I mention that a huge perk of staying there is that you can enjoy the newly-opened spa? The Spa encourages the communal rituals of ancient bathing traditions and serves as a hub for sessions by some of the world’s top yogis and treatments by expert practitioners. Visit the Lido Bayside Grill for a quick lunch and pop by the Monterrey Bar for a quick drink before you enjoy some of what Miami is famous for—its nightlife. There’s also a café, gym, boutique, nail salon, and intimate indoor bar. You will not regret staying here, I promise you.

Where to Eat Dinner: The Collins Room at The Bath Club

Talk about old-school glamour! This newly-opened restaurant seeks to revive the early ’50s and ’60s feel of fine dining, and boy, does it live up to its reputation. Step into a literal time machine where historic art deco comes to life for a truly one-of-a-kind evening. The cuisine is American—indulgent to say the least, in the best possible way. From seafood towers to flaming desserts, you’ll leave full and satisfied, I promise. I cannot wait to go back.

Where to Eat Dinner: The Standard Spa with Lori Bell, The Good Witch

You didn’t think I was done talking about the Standard and everything it offers, do you? Whether you’re staying at the picturesque wellness resort or not, you’ve got to book an astrology reading with Lori Bell, master astrologist with decades of experience. She’ll take you through your natal chart, tell you about yourself and what the stars were like when you were born and then walk you gently through the planetary transits that are happening for you this year. I personally almost walked out teary-eyed (in a good way) because she was so spot-on, but with a gentle and supportive flair. I’ve felt a little frightened by some of my placements—I’m looking at you, Scorpio Venus—but Lori’s delicate and positive outlook will leave you feeling uplifted and proud to have, as she says, picked the time you were born into this Earth. She also co-created the Planet Standard Astrology Deck, a deck of cards using hotel images that highlight the distinctive personality traits, strengths and flaws for your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. Whether or not you’re a newbie to astrology or a seasoned veteran, this gorgeous collaboration is informative and looks good on your coffee table.

Located at 40 Island Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. You can click here to book Lori for an astrology reading.

Wellness, mindfulness and beauty come together to give you a next-level array of wellness treatments. Located on South Beach, the treatments and experiences you can try here are otherworldly, to be completely honest. Start off in the spa where you can try the sauna, steam, thermal therapy, experimental rain (my favorite), or herbal laconium. From touchless wellness treatments like Vibroacoustic Electro Magnetic And Infrared Therapy or the Somadome, you will guaranteed walk out of the Carillon feeling like a million bucks. Plus, you can end your day at the pool or by the beach—talk about luxury. Check out their website to learn more about the endless treatments and experiences they offer.
