Here’s Where the Experts Stand on Whether or Not CBD Actually Works

Benefits, risks, rewards ... the answer may surprise you.

We’re well into CBD no longer being a trend, but a staple in many individuals’ routines. It’s past the point of the new hot thing to try. CBD is taking over our lives. It’s in our coffee, tinctures, and even our lotions. Yet, we’ve still got differing opinions on whether or not it actually works. We’re here to tell you that, for the most part, it does. There are sketchy products on the market that can claim falsities about the potency their CBD has, and that’s not good. At the same time, there is moderate evidence that suggests CBD does what it claims to do. Some research is even claiming that CBD and their family member, terpenes, actually help more with inflammation for COVID-19 than traditional medicine on the market. Does CBD actually work?

We did a little research and got the 101 on CBD for you. Keep reading below for more. Oh, and #HappyNationalCBDDay!

What Is CBD?

According to MBG, CBD is a term signifying a component of the cannabis plant that comes with the much-talked-about anti-inflammatory benefits, and you’re seeing it on everything from skin-care products to high-vibe tinctures. It’s from the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the cannabis plant. “Cannabidiol—known as CBD—is one of over a hundred active compounds or cannabinoids found exclusively in the cannabis plant. CBD acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory, which reduces pain and inflammation. It’s been used for centuries to successfully provide pain relief to muscle aches, arthritis, joint pain, neuropathic conditions, headaches, and to aid skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, even sunburn, and bug bites when used topically.”

What Do The Experts Say?

According to Discover Magazine, here’s a reason CBD works. According to them, if you feel any pain,

CB1 and CB2 receptors on your skin cells have already fired off signals to help dampen those unpleasant vibes. These receptors — part of the body’s endocannabinoid system — spend their workdays responding to chemical messages that help our skin nurture a healthy balance. CBD cream bypasses the CB1 and CB2 receptors and heads straight for a neurotransmitter middleman that blocks signals for pain and itch by working through agents called anandamide and 2-AG.

On top of this, Dr. Robert Melamade of NYU says the following about CBD: “The endocannabinoid system is the conductor of life’s biochemical orchestra. CBD plays a powerful part in health’s music by straddling the biochemical subdivision that coordinates differentiated functions with their repair and maintenance. Cannabinoids are necessary nutrients for optimizing human health.”

Through studying science, CBD is a mechanism that is visible in our own bodies. It has the necessary nutrients required for optimizing and putting our health first. On the other hand, we are missing human studies that prove CBD is 100% what it claims to be. These are on the way though. Currently, we like to use CBD topically the most. Absorption of CBD through the skin has been shown to relieve common skin issues, inflammaton, and boost your skin’s natural glow. The antioxidants in CBD are perfect for incredible skin. CBD can also help with pain by reducing inflammation. Keep reading for our favorite one.
