For many of us, a relaxing facial is the ultimate version of self-care. Not only does it force you to just slow down for an hour or so, the right type of treatment can also work wonders for your skin.
Anyone who loves a good facial knows that there’s no better feeling than walking out after a moment of pure bliss looking and feeling fresh—combine this with the endless benefits of CBD and you’ve got yourself a match made in heaven.
Amodrn’s very own Bianca Cheah can attest. After getting treated to a CBD facial exclusive to Los Angeles’ Heyday just recently, she was amazed at how soft and supple her skin was afterwards. Not only that, she felt unbelievably calm and restful on the inside thanks to what’s been dubbed as a magic ingredient.

What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is one of the chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the plant, however, unlike marijuana, it doesn’t contain THC, the psychoactive element responsible for getting you high. CBD oil has been hailed for its ability to treat conditions such as anxiety and chronic pain and has recently made its way into ingestible products and skincare courtesy of its anti-inflammatory and potent antioxidant properties.
Why is CBD good for your skin?
“There is still a lot of research on the whole body effects of CBD, but when it comes to skincare, it promotes a sense of wellbeing and is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals,” says Heyday Skin Therapist, Jenna Walsh. “When applied to the skin, CBD acts as an optimizer, amplifying the beneficial active ingredients of other products and allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin. And honestly, it just makes you feel so relaxed.”
Other skin benefits include:
- Rich in essential fatty acids like omega 3 and 6
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves texture
- Reduces puffiness
Who are CBD facials best suited to?
The guys over at Heyday state that a CBD facial is suitable for all skin types, and their CBD honey mask, in particular, is perfect for acne-prone skin thanks to its anti-bacterial properties. However, as the treatment offered at Heyday does contain ingredients such as honey, avocado, almond and coconut, those with such food allergies should steer clear.
Will I get high?
This is one FAQ! Heyday’s response on their website is: “Nope! All of the Mowellens CBD products used in the ‘Back to Balance Facial’ are produced using hemp-derived CBD and will not get you high.”
“You’ll be able to drive home safely, nothing would come up on a drug test, you won’t smell like weed, and you won’t all of a sudden need to eat Cheetos. What you will feel is more along the lines of released tension, like when you get up from a good massage.”
Is it safe during pregnancy?
As it’s a topical treatment, CBD facials are deemed to be safe during pregnancy, however, always consult your doctor/health care professional before trying anything new.
Where can I get a CBD facial?
This CBD facial is available exclusively at Heyday in LA, but before you start googling where else you can find one, know that although CBD products are legal in the US and UK, they are not yet in Australia.
In Australia, CBD oil is classified as a Schedule 4 drug and can only be prescribed by a doctor for certain conditions in which the patient has to be eligible.
As of November 2017, hemp (another derivative of the cannabis plant) was legalized as a food product in Australia and available in different forms such as seeds and powder.
