Barry’s Bootcamp is where beautiful people go to become even more beautiful – celebrities and models can’t get enough of the fitness chain’s unique blend of treadmill training and heavy weights.
Since launching as a boutique fitness class during 1998 in Hollywood, California, Barry’s has become a global success story, offering classes across the country and the world. So if you’ve still been putting off finally trying out a class, here’s all the motivation you need, thanks to CEO Joey Gonzalez.
How is Barry’s Bootcamp different from other fitness studios?
Barry’s is the original high-energy cardio and strength training interval workout. The unique combination of treadmill-based cardiovascular mixed with strength training intervals is highly effective, and the studio calendar is customized to focus on different body parts each day of the week for a complete full–body regime.
Our instructors are inspirational and always keep the experience fresh with motivating playlists. Our studios are set to dim, red lighting, with an overall fun and supportive environment featuring that special Barry’s vibe.
How did you personally get involved with Barry’s Bootcamp?
I truly had a four-dimensional experience at Barry’s: from customer/fan, to instructor, to manager/partner, and most recently CEO. This has given me a comprehensive perspective on the business, and allowed me to build amazing relationships with employees all around the country.
What does an average Barry’s workout include?
The signature Barry’s workout consists of 25 to 30 minutes of interval-based cardiovascular routines on treadmills with 25 to 30 minutes of strength training using free weights, resistance bands, and more. The treadmill work allows you to improve on your endurance and speed and is a major calorie-scorcher, while the strength training portion helps to target specific muscle groups to strengthen and tone. Switching between the cardio and strength training in our interval style format is an extremely effective way to increase heart rate, boost metabolism, and achieve the coveted after-burn of a high-intensity workout.
How many calories can people expect to burn in a class?
Participants can burn over 1,000 calories per one-hour class!
What tips do you give first-timers trying out a class?
You can always go at your own pace at Barry’s, and our class is for all fitness levels. Our trainers will guide you and make sure you’re getting the most out of your workout.
What can people do to burn more calories and make the most of their Barry’s Bootcamp classes?
To get more out of it, put more into it. Our instructors always provide modification options for strength training and they’ll always suggest speed ranges to participants on the treadmill. Challenge yourself to run at the higher end of the speed range and try to beat your last sprint. You can also try a slightly heavier set of weights than what you might be used to.
Are there different types of Barry’s Bootcamp classes? How are they different?
Although each class follows a similar format of 25 to 30 minutes of cardio work on the treadmill and 25 to 30 minutes of strength training, no two Barry’s classes are the same. Our instructors add their own flare to each session to challenge our guests and each day of the week focuses on a different area of the body. Every Barry’s location across the globe offers “Arms & Abs” classes all day on Mondays, “Butt and Legs” class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays are for “Chest, Back, and Abs,“ on Thursdays we offer “Abs” class and Friday through Sunday is “Full Body” class.
