Ashley Graham is a modern day feminist hero, particularly in fashion and wellness circles. She’s a vocal activist for positive body image and inclusivity in the fashion industry, a world-famous model, and a social media icon. Graham regularly posts about her “cellulite” on Instagram and calls our the term “plus-size” as being “divisive to women.”
It should come as no surprise to Graham’s followers, then, that she nabbed her 53-year-old mother Linda Graham to front an uplifting campaign for latest the collection from the model’s size-inclusive swimwear brand. In the campaign, titled Power of the Journey and shot by photographer Ben Watts, Graham poses alongside her mom in printed and colorful two-pieces set to a desert backdrop.
While modeling swimwear is her daughter’s job, Linda Graham told Vogue that the experience was all new to her. “I had never put on a string bikini. Ever,” she says. “Here I am at 53 years old and in a hot pink string bikini, but I was kind of in love with that swimsuit!”
Ashley says that she hopes the images will give her mom’s confidence a boost while also encouraging other women over 50 to feel body-confident and great in their swimwear. “What I want is for women my mother’s age to feel empowered and to know that they too can look just as hot in a one-piece, a two-piece, or string bikini,” the younger Graham told Vogue. “I believe that beauty is beyond, age, race, or size, and it’s not a trend—at every stage of your life, you can feel beautiful.” Bravo.
