Sportscraft unveils 2016 Australian Olympic Team Uniform

If Olympic fever hasn’t set in yet, then maybe this announcement might give you a kick-start.
For the seventh time in their 102 year history, iconic Australian lifestyle brand Sportscraft has once again partnered with the Australian Olympic Committee as the Official Supplier of Opening Ceremony and Formal Uniforms to the 2016 Australian Olympic team. And after two years, the final product has been debuted.
Sticking to the oh-so-Australian green and gold colour palette, the athletes will don classic seersucker cotton blazers with white bottoms, finished with a gold embroidered coat of arms badge and burnished gold Australian Olympic coat of arms buttons. The blazers also pay homage to past gold medallists with a unique lining inside the jacket with each athlete’s name. Other key design details include the ladies silk scarf printed with the Southern Cross, beautiful 100% extra fine Australian Merino wool knits, and a green and gold knitted men’s tie. In terms of footwear, socially-conscious footwear brand TOMS will be kitting the Aussie athletes out in custom designed TOMS Olympic Brogues.

Sportscraft Brand Ambassador Naomi Watts spoke about the uniform, “It’s fantastic, as we all know in Rio it will be hot in August and so lightweight fabrics are very suitable for summer, very comfortable for the athletes, and very traditional, and I happen to be a fan of the seersucker, so a nice little bit of a stripe is a good detail.”

To celebrate the unveiling of the uniforms we caught up with Australian Rugby Sevens captain, Ed Jenkins, to chat about his training regime, food philosophy and Rio.

Meet rugby superstar Ed Jenkins

First three things I do when I wake up:

Shower, coffee and stretch

Last thing I do at night:

Turn the air con on

Most people probably don’t know this about me, but:

I have an identical twin

[Jono Jenkins is a rugby union player]

Best piece of advice I’ve ever received:

Talent will only get you so far. Hard work will get you a lot further in life than talent alone.

Biggest career highlight so far:

Winning Silver at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games

I am most looking forward to:

Competing in the Rio Olympics as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

The Rio Olympics will be unique because:

It’s the first time I’ve been to Rio.

Describe the Olympic uniform in three words:

White, Australian, iconic

My current fitness regime involves:

At the moment we’re training six days a week in the lead up to the Olympics. This involves four days of conditioning work, either on the field or cardio in the gym (such as on the erg or stationary bike).

My food philosophy is:

I’m quite lucky that I don’t follow a specific diet or food regime. I just try and eat enough carbs and proteins at the right time.

My gym bag essentials are:

Protein shaker, caffeine gum and a towel

Best meal I’ve ever eaten:

I’m a big fan of medium-rare steak and the best one I’ve had so far was at Sails Restaurant in Noosa.

If sugar were a superfood, my diet would consist of:

Ice-cream and chocolate

If I were a fruit or vegetable I’d be:

Mango or avocado

I never leave home without:

My golf clubs. I try to play as much as possible in between training. I live five minutes from the golf course, which is pretty convenient.

My favourite holiday destination is:

Amalfi Coast, Italy

My favourite emoji is:

Rugby ball

My pet peeve is:

People taking short cuts in life
